Ever had those days when you are just stumped on what makeup to wear for the day? If you're a makeup collector and surrounded by endless choices of colors, you know what I mean. Or just those days when you literally have 5 minutes to get ready and matching your eyeshadow to your outfit is just totally out of the question?
Well here are the products that I find I constantly reach for on those days. "Fail-proof-and-out-the-door" makeup as I call them. Perfection is not needed with these, just apply and go!
For eyes, MAC Paintpot in Soft Ochre creates a great base, cancels out redness so no concealer needed. On some days, I just use it on its own and just set with powder. For eyeshadows, I love the classic Smoky Eyes Quad (93) from Chanel. I have the Euro version. I find that a wash of the gray shade on the lids is perfect and I use the soft black wet for eyeliner. I've had this quad for years and I never seem to get tired of it. For the crease and brows, I use the Chanel Ombre Essentielle in Sand (68), this is the perfect soft brown for me.. not too warm or too cool. This also makes a great wash of color on the lids on its own. I just apply these products with my trusty MAC 217 brush, awesome for laying down color and blending.. and just a basic eyeliner brush. Why no mascara, you ask? Well, there are just some days I couldn't be bothered to curl my lashes and wear one. I just use the eyeshadow on my lash line to create the illusion of thicker lashes.
For a base, this is where powder foundation becomes a lifesaver. The no-fuss application and blending, is perfect for those days you have to quickly get out of the door. In my case, I have been enjoying the Chanel Le Blanc Light Mastering Powder Foundation for the task, and it has SPF 25 to boot! (Just a note that I use an additional sunscreen under this powder if I know I'll be out in the sun for long periods of time). For cheeks, the sadly discontinued Chanel Joues Contraste in Narcisse. This blush gives me the perfect light flush and makes me look healthy. It's hard to over do this blush since it's somewhat sheer, but I think it's perfect because you don't have to spend a lot of time blending the product. And when I'm in a real hurry and can only have one face brush, I reach for the MAC 165 brush, I love it for precise application and blending. For lips, nothing beats a neutral nude lip with Tom Ford Blush Nude. Tom Ford has got to be my favorite formula in lipsticks. And I rarely need a balm underneath this lipstick, thus it saves me time.
And lastly, it may seem odd that I added the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo, but I just can't seem to give this product enough praises. It is an amazing spot and acne treatment and it delivers! It's one of those products I definitely throw into my makeup bag as well -- "just in case".
